Canalside Restaurant, Inn & Kitchen Store

Canalside has one of the best seats in town, quite literally — the patio looks straight out over the Welland Canal at historic Bridge 21, so you can watch a laker slide past while you eat. The menu leans into comfort done well: fresh seafood, hearty mains, burgers that don’t cut corners, and a wine list that suits a slow evening by the water. It’s equally good for a casual lunch after a morning at the beach or a proper dinner out — the kind of place that works whether you’re in shorts and sandals or dressed up a little. Portions are generous, service is friendly without being fussy, and the setting does a lot of the work for you. In warmer months, book ahead for a patio table at sunset; it’s the most requested spot in the house for good reason. If a bridge happens to lift for a passing ship while you’re mid-meal, don’t worry — that’s not an interruption, that’s the show. Bring the whole group; there’s room, and there’s plenty on the menu for picky eaters and adventurous ones alike.
